We believe that the purpose of the local church in this present age is best set forth in Ephesians chapter four:
7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. 8 Therefore He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men.” . . .
11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head — Christ — 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
Ephesians 4:7-8, 11-16

Christ has given spiritual gifts to all believers for the building up of His church. Each of us is gifted at the moment of salvation, and we are gifted with a goal in mind. Notice the purpose given in Ephesians 4:12-16:
Notice that it is not only the church leaders who do the work of the ministry. Rather, as the saints (referring to every believer in Jesus Christ) are equipped through the teaching of the Word of God, it is the saints who do the work of the ministry, leading to the edifying (building up) of the body of Christ. As the church is built up, the saints enjoy biblical unity, spiritual maturity and Christ-likeness, leading to fruitful service to one another and further growth of the church.
In light of Ephesians 4:11-14, while the church is called to many activities, our services are arranged with an emphasis on the preaching of God’s Word, typically in verse-by-verse, exegetical, and expository fashion. As the Word of God is taught, believers gain confidence in their understanding of God, the Bible, and their own God-given roles and responsibilities. This leads to transformed lives, healthier relationships, and the potential for more effective service within the church.
Our distinctives
- Our message centers in the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:2)
- Our doctrine is grace-oriented and based solely upon the Bible. (Acts 20:32; 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
- Our objectives involve evangelism of the lost (2 Corinthians 5:19), edification and equipping for the saved (Ephesians 4:12), and exaltation of the Savior (Ephesians 3:21).
- Our teaching is Biblical, expository (verse by verse), and relevant. (1 Timothy 4:13)
- Our worship is in Spirit and in truth, but not “charismatic.” (John 4:24; Philippians 3:3)
- Our fellowship is centered around the Lord Jesus Christ. (1 John 1:3)
- Our enablement comes from the Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 5:18)
- Our music consists of psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs which are scripturally-sound, God-honoring, and done in a reverent, non-worldly manner. (Ephesians 5:19)
- Our ministry recognizes the importance and contribution of every believer properly exercising his/her spiritual gift(s) for the benefit of the entire body of Christ. (1 Corinthians 12:14, 25-27; Ephesians 4:11-16)
- Our mode of giving is grace-giving out of gratitude and love for the Lord, not tithing. (2 Corinthians 9:7)
- Our desire is to complement and support the family, as ordained by God, not compete with it. (Deuteronomy 6:1-10; Ephesians 6:1-4)
- Our local church government is autonomous and self-governing, unaffiliated with or governed by any denomination, being directly under the headship of the Lord Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 1:22; Ephesians 5:23)
- Our church leadership shall include only spiritually-qualified men serving as the pastor-teacher, elders, and deacons. (Acts 6:1-6; 1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9)
- Our Blessed Hope shall ever be the imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Titus 2:13)
